Description

Innovative flywheel technology designed, developed and assembled inside cleantech specialist Dumarey Green Power’s premises at Silverstone Park for industrial applications is having a significant positive impact on wider society, especially the environment.

This technology – flywheel energy storage systems derived from a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) originally developed for Formula 1 racing – powers applications such as major construction sites (e.g. HS2, Hinkley Point C and the recent London Olympia refurbishment); medical industry (MRI and CT scanners); mining and quarrying (concrete batching plants and crushing equipment) as well as renewable energy with wind turbines (130 turbines in Northern Ireland alone).

It is estimated the technology has now saved industry more than 6.5 million litres of diesel being burnt (preventing 20 million kg in CO2 emissions). This saving is more than double the equivalent amount of all fuel consumed by all cars in every Formula 1 race since the start of the F1 World Championship in 1950 at Silverstone.

Dumarey Green Power occupies two premises at Silverstone Park totalling 10,000 sq ft and employs 40 people, many of them mechanical and electrical engineers.
