Project and CAD Engineer

Rockwood Composites is seeking to recruit an experienced CAD Engineer. This opportunity has arisen due to an expanding order book, driven by exciting projects within the Aerospace, Medical, Defence, and Cryogenic industries.

Based in Paignton, Devon, Rockwood is an engineering and manufacturing facility dedicated to the composites industry.

The successful candidate will join a skilled engineering team and be involved in a range of activities, including Design for Manufacturing (DFM), tooling design, fixture design, technical component drawings reporting to customers.

The successful candidate will ensure that designs are practical and machinable all while meeting tight deadlines. Collaboration with other engineering staff and departments is critical. Maintaining documentation of all design drafts and revisions is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing detailed 3D models and 2D technical drawings using SolidWorks software.
• Lead engineering projects by preparing designs and documentation for new projects, liaising with customers, and maintaining excellent communication between all members of the key departments.
• Collaborating with team members, to address developmental design issues and help to smoothly transfer from projects from development into production.

Knowledge and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• In-depth knowledge and long-standing experience in SolidWorks CAD software is essential.
• An engineering background and industrial experience are key, including knowledge of various materials, their characteristics, strengths and weaknesses and machinability for example.
• A good understanding of Applied Maths in relation to engineering.
• Machining knowledge is desirable.
• A strong understanding of engineering theory and the principles of design.
• Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to use the Microsoft 365 suite of software.
