Dr Stefan Lawrenson joined Scott Bader as a Polymer Chemist in January 2022, being promoted to Senior Polymer Chemist in September 2023. His work as part of the Technology and Sustainable Development (Composite) team focusses on the development of polyester, vinyl ester and urethane acrylate resins for composite materials. However, his research interests are largely in the use of green and sustainable chemistry for polymer synthesis and 3D printing.

Stefan graduated in 2013 with an MSc in Chemistry from the University of Bristol. He then pursued a PhD within the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellent at the University of York. Working under the supervision of Professor Michael North, where his thesis explored the use of sustainable solvents in solid-phase organic synthesis (SPOS) and the development of a novel bio-based monomer framework for ring-opening metathesis polymerisation (ROMP).

In 2019, Stefan moved to the University of Birmingham where for 3.5 years he worked as Postdoctoral Research Associated on projects at the interface of Academia and Industry. First, with Professor Rachel O’Reilly FRS and BP Plc on the development of zwitterionic polymers for enhanced oil recovery. Then for Professor Andrew Dove and Photocentric Ltd., as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), on the photopolymerisation of terpene monomers for use in 3D printing.
